American Pool
American Pool is the largest commercial swimming pool management, maintenance, construction and recreational facility management operation in the United States. It offers comprehensive pool services including providing maintenance, management, and lifeguards for more than 3,000 commercial swimming facilities and 7,000 residential pools. The Company currently has 26 wholly-owned subsidiaries that are operating in the U.S. and Canada.

American Pool had moved to a CRM product that was proving inadequate for its mobile needs. The company found it difficult to create field service apps and Web sites with it. American Pool's workforce is mobile and its lifeguards, supervisors, and field technicians all needed mobile access to its CRM platform wherever they were, for purposes such as collecting data in the field.
"It's much easier to build applications with Alpha Anywhere than to handwrite code. It also takes care of tasks such as connecting directly to a SQL database, so that we don't have do that coding."
Solution
When American Pool looked at current development technologies, it found Alpha Anywhere was the only one that met its needs, particularly the software's ability to connect to American Pool's backend, and the way it can build hybrid mobile apps that access a phone's camera for taking photos and incorporating them into records. "We also needed a development environment that could quickly and easily develop mobile apps for Android phones, iPhones, and tablets, and Alpha was perfect for that," recalls Karen Snyder, American Pool CIO. With the company's previous platform, it could only tweak applications. With Alpha Anywhere, it could build entire applications from scratch, and do it rapidly. As soon as it began using Alpha Anywhere, American Pool began to quickly build a variety of applications. It proved so easy to do that the company was able to build applications itself that it previously would have had to outsource. "It's much easier to build applications with Alpha Anywhere than to handwrite code," Snyder says. "It also takes care of tasks such as connecting directly to a SQL database, so that we don't have do that coding."

Results/Benefits
American Pool has been writing applications with Alpha Anywhere that streamline its operations, increase efficiency, and save money. Mobile users will have the same access to the CRM platform that is available on the desktop. One application will improve the way in which the company collects payroll information for lifeguards in the field. Currently, lifeguards have to call an 800 number and enter a PIN to clock in and out. With the new mobile application, lifeguards will be able to do all that directly from their phones. The application also includes scheduling tools and can tap into geolocation data so that American Pool can confirm lifeguards are onsite at pools when they are scheduled to work. In addition to saving time and improving efficiency, the new field app will save American Pool upwards of $35,000 a year by allowing them to replace the lifeguard clock-in system with a mobile field services app. It took less than a week to build the app. Testing it with a small user base during development helped speed up the development process. Using Alpha Anywhere, the company has also rebuilt a process that the CRM system has previously handled. With the CRM system, data for the process had to be entered manually in a very time-consuming manner. With the new app, users can enter data in an editable grid which is much faster. What used to take a staff member four hours a week to do now takes 15 minutes. Another application will make use of Alpha Anywhere's ability to build apps with offline access. Using the app, American Pool's inspectors in the field will be able to take photos of pools, making it easier to document how much maintenance needs to be done on them. The application will be able to work even when offline, especially important because some pools are located in areas without data coverage of any kind. Snyder took a three-day developer course that delved deeply into Alpha Anywhere's capabilities, and says that as a result of how much she learned, "We will now be able to have multiple projects rolling at the same time." Summing up the benefits of Alpha Anywhere, she concludes, "Alpha Anywhere does more than just save us time and money. It empowers us and puts us in direct control of our business applications and speed data collection in the field."

Committee on the Shelterless
The Committee On The Shelterless in Petaluma, California, is a non-profit agency that provides a wide range of services that prevent and break the cycle of homelessness for children, families, and adults. It provides 350 beds of shelter for families and single adults. Annually, it serves 2,200 adults and children, and provides 124,000 hot meals to seniors, veterans, families, and children.
The Committee On The Shelterless (COTS) provides its services at two homeless shelters, 21 houses, and a 34-unit apartment complex. Its primary goals are to prevent the cycle of homelessness and to provide shelter for those without homes.

Traditionally, services have been provided from homeless service centers where clients would go for shelter, receive help and meet with caseworkers. A more effective way of breaking the cycle of homelessness is the Housing First model. Housing First is an approach that offers permanent, affordable housing as quickly as possible for individuals and families experiencing homelessness, and then provides supportive services wherever the clients may be to help them keep their housing and avoid returning to homelessness. For COTS, this means that caseworkers travel to the houses and apartments to meet with clients, and outreach workers travel around the city to where the homeless congregate. Applications for caseworkers were originally designed for desktop computers, not mobile devices. COTS was looking to develop a suite of tablet-based field apps that would help its caseworkers deliver mobile services to their clients and collect data in the field. "The data collection apps we envision would help us be more effective in the services we deliver," says COTS' Director of Information Services Bill Hess. "Beyond that, they have to meet Housing and Urban Development (HUD) guidelines for data collection, management and reporting, and be able to communicate with a central Homeless Management Information System (HMIS)."

Solution
Hess looked at field app solutions, and chose Alpha Anywhere for multiple reasons. "The ease of developing data collection apps was one of the big draws for us," Hess says. "The ability to create mobile forms for tablets, smartphones, and Web browsers is extremely important, because that's where things are heading. We also appreciated the support that Alpha supplies." Another key reason for choosing Alpha Software is that Hess wanted to create mobile field apps that could easily be maintained and updated by someone who does not have the same level of technical skills that he has. "I have a background in software development, but these apps will be important for a long time. I want to create apps that someone without my expertise can still maintain. Alpha Anywhere is perfect for that," he explains. With Alpha Anywhere, Hess is building a suite of apps designed to run on tablets that caseworkers can bring with them into the field. Caseworkers need to carefully document every part of their day and services they provide, and the apps make doing that exceptionally easy, including automatic data collection. The apps also integrate with HMIS and meet HUD standards.

Results/Benefits
Hess is building a core app designed for caseworkers to do their work using a tablet away from the office. In the morning, caseworkers will sign into the app to see the appointments and work they have for the entire day. Also loaded in the app will be information about all of the clients they will be visiting and other data. All this saves a tremendous amount of paperwork and manual labor. Caseworkers are required to document all travel, appointments, and meetings, including travel time and mileage between destinations. The app makes that far easier. It automatically records travel time and distances using the tablet's clock and geolocation capabilities. To record time spent in meetings or with clients, caseworkers need only tap buttons when the meetings start and end. At the end of the day, the caseworker syncs data from mobile data collection solution with the office network. In turn, the network sends the data to the accounting system, the HMIS, and an activity sheet tracking the caseworker's work. "This offers many benefits," Hess says. "With it, caseworkers can spend more time with clients, and less time doing paperwork and manual tasks." Using Alpha Anywhere, Hess is also writing a smartphone app that allows people in the community to provide COTS with information about individuals and areas in the town that need attention, such as homeless encampments, graffiti, abandoned shopping carts, and more. In addition to helping COTS provide better services, it also creates a bond between people in the community and COTS, which will lead to increased community involvement in solving the problem of homelessness. "With the apps we're building with Alpha Anywhere, we're not just improving productivity and forging links with the community - we're offering better services to the homeless, which is the whole reason for our being," he says.

Fast Mirror is a cloud-based platform for the human resources industry. It allows employees to get feedback from their colleagues on how they're doing and create a growth plan in response to that feedback. It addresses many of the challenges Human Resources organizations are currently struggling with such as low levels of employee satisfaction with performance appraisal, a need for increased employee feedback, and a need to provide employees with actionable, meaningful resources for their professional development. Fast Mirror founder John Azzara has a background in industrial/organizational psychology and has extensive leadership experience in human resources. In 2006 he founded his consulting company, People Talent Solutions (PTS), a provider of technology and consulting services, after working for years as an internal consultant in a variety of Fortune 500 companies. He developed several HR technology products for PTS clients who needed customized, low-cost solutions. His clients have spanned many industries including financial services, hospitality, biotech, manufacturing, retail, and automotive.

Azzara wanted to build a self-service Software as a Service (Saas) solution for clients that would help human resources organizations address some of the challenges they are currently facing with performance feedback and professional development. In many organizations employees are looking for more feedback than they usually receive in the annual performance appraisal discussion. When they do receive feedback, they need help coming up with a plan to address the areas they want to work on. He also wanted to help reduce the administrative burden traditional feedback and development processes have imposed on HR organizations. Fast Mirror addresses these problems.
"None of the other platforms offered the right balance between ease of use and hand-coding."
Solution
Azzara is a self-taught developer as well as a human resources expert. His background was in VBA, VB.net, and C# . He has experience with other development platforms including The Force, Salesforce's developer platform, and Visual Studio, but none of them provided what he needed. "None of them were really right," he says. "Salesforce would have caused problems with its pricing, and wasn't flexible enough. None of the other platforms offered the right balance between ease of use and hand-coding." He came across Alpha Anywhere, and found its coding-optional approach ideal for what he wanted to do. "When I discovered Alpha Anywhere, I was very impressed with its low-code approach," he says. "With it I can build what I want in just a few clicks, and when I want something more advanced, I can write the code myself."
Azzara lauds Alpha Anywhere's extensibility, which lets him use a variety of technologies, including XBasic, JavaScript, CSS, and .NET Assemblies. He found a great deal of online support, including "videos that helped me do whatever I had to get done," he says. He built the Fast Mirror subscription-based service by himself, including the SaaS framework, and made considerable use of CSS and Alpha Anywhere's list control. He finished the work in half the time than if he had used a competing product. Fast Mirror can utilize API's of existing platforms to integrate information.
"If we had to build the core from scratch, it would have taken three times as long. But with Alpha, we made our May 1st deadline."
Results/Benefits
Azzara gained significant benefits by building Fast Mirror using Alpha Anywhere rather than a competing solution, including reduced costs, improved productivity, and faster time to market. "If I had used a tool rather than Alpha Anywhere, it would have taken me twice as long to launch Fast Mirror, and possibly miss a market opportunity," Azzara says. "And if I had wanted to keep the same timeline as I had with Alpha Anywhere, but used a different platform, I would have had to hire developers to help me build it, at a considerable cost." The finished SaaS service was superior to what it would have been if he had used another tool, he says, because Alpha Anywhere let him build prototypes quickly, allowing for fast iterations. He is currently working on building a mobile-web version of the service using Alpha Anywhere. Summing up his experience with Alpha Anywhere, he says, "The best thing about it is that it lets you focus on what you want to get done, and takes care of a lot of manual work for you. It's as if I were building a house, and I could just build the part that I'm going to walk around in, and have someone else take care of the plumbing."

Business Challenge
GBS badly needed to modernize its systems because of the sheer size of its business. The Company has a team of 200 operators receiving and logging customer requests, initiating work orders and dispatching field service workers responding to furniture warranty claims. Some days the Company needs to initiate, log and track over 300 work orders — and then make sure all the data from every call gets captured and sent through to the Company’s backend systems.
Work orders had previously been filled out on paper, leading to wasted time and potential errors. Similarly, data was captured by field workers at remote locations, and needed to be input later into the company’s systems by a second back-office worker. The data that was captured was very limited and included little backup material for service calls, such as photos of the furniture damage or issue. Also, having a second worker capture all that information by keyboard further slowed the process of fielding claims and assigning repair orders.
Work orders previously completed on paper are now created with workers' smartphones, resulting in faster throughput of warranty claims and more comprehensive and accurate field data.
Solution
With customers that include many of the Top 200 furniture and bedding retailers throughout the United States, capturing accurate information and integrating data collection with its back-office systems was critical for GBS Enterprises. They also sought to speed field work and claims processing, while saving time and costs on back-office data entry. As a result, GBS Enterprises chose the Alpha Anywhere platform and  Alpha Transform to mobilize the company’s business, including building front office and back office systems, a complete call center and service dispatch application, and mobile apps.
GBS Enterprises has mobilized its field work by building mobile service dispatch apps using Alpha TransForm. Work orders that were previously on paper are now created with workers' smartphones. Technicians using the dispatch app are improving the data collection accuracy and depth, capturing images and scanning bar codes to initiate and process claims. The new mobile app capability is integrated with GBS Enterprises' dispatch system so that when work orders are sent to the field technicians they already contain pertinent contact address info, as well as information about the work to be performed.

Business Challenge
Goodman Global Group has been expanding extremely quickly, and its existing sales systems couldn’t keep up with the company’s growth. Goodman’s heating and cooling system are sold by independent contractors, Distributors and Co-Distributors. Contractors needed ways to become more efficient in tracking leads and sales. If Goodman could provide that, the company believed, it would make it more likely that contractors would recommend and install Goodman’s products rather than those of competitors.Goodman also needed to better track data that could help it price its products properly. Goodman’s executives didn’t have easy, up-to-date access to much of its sales and related data."We wanted to build a modern system that would help us keep up with our growth and even accelerate it," says Daniel Santucci, Division Pricing Director. "Because our contractor partners are often in the field, we needed to build a mobile app for them. For our executives, we needed a web app that gives fast access to our enterprise data. And we needed to build it all fast."

Solution
Daniel Santucci has experience with .NET programming, but felt the technology could not give him the capabilities he wanted. His job is in sales, not in IT, so he also needed a tool that would let him build a solution without having to write a lot of code. "I needed something that could give me more power than .NET, that would allow me to develop the apps much more quickly, and that supports both mobile and the web. I also needed a platform that could allow me to add the functionality important to sales staff and executives, such as tapping into enterprise sales data." He compared several development tools, and was immediately impressed by Alpha Anywhere and its ability to build manufacturing apps. "When I saw a demo of it, it absolutely blew me away," he says. "It had all the power and capabilities I needed, had the hooks to the environment I needed to connect to, and was clearly designed for rapid application development. The people at Alpha Software were also incredibly helpful, as were Alpha’s tutorials, including videos." Using Alpha Anywhere, Daniel Santucci was able to build a mobile app in a month's time to help his contractors better track and fulfill sales. He also built a web app so Goodman executives could tap into enterprise sales information.

Goodman received considerable benefits from Alpha Software, including significantly faster time to market, fast access to current sales data, and a mobile app for iOS and Android that increases customer loyalty and sales. "In a .NET environment, it would have taken me six months to build everything. With other low-code products I would have had to sacrifice functionality. With Alpha Anywhere, I developed a fully functioning, rich mobile and web app in just a month." Goodman provides the mobile app for free to its partner contractors in the field who fix or install HVAC systems. Typically, contractors track their work and leads on paper, which makes it difficult for them to capture all the information about a house or business, the kind of work that is needed, and their HVAC requirements. With the mobile app, contractors track all leads, from when they are first contacted, to visits to the home or business, and to the final sale. It includes contact information, email address, and technical information about the potential installation. They never lose data, or face the problem of having inaccurate data. This makes it far easier for the contractors to follow up on leads, make sales and do the installations. The contractors are not Goodman employees, and they have the choice of using HVAC equipment from a variety of different suppliers. But because the Goodman app makes them more productive, they are more likely to sell Goodman equipment. "It’s a tough market, and contractors can sell from multiple companies," Daniel Santucci says. "But the app we give them has helped us generate and retain business tenfold, because we’re providing contractors with a solution at no charge that can help them grow and manage their businesses. In return we get their loyalty. It’s given us a significant competitive edge. And we’ve done it because of Alpha Anywhere." In addition to the customer-facing app, Daniel Santucci also built an internal one that tracks sales. It can be used on either mobile devices or desktops, and lets executives see sales information on a daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis. It includes charting capabilities and vital sales data such as customer attrition rates, success rates, and more. Senior management uses it to track sales in real time. It helps them fine-tune their sales strategies, get a better sense of future sales, and grow the company. Recently, Daniel Santucci was promoted to Division Pricing Director, in part due to his success mobilizing the sales organization. Alpha Anywhere will play a significant part in his new role, allowing Daniel Santucci to help multiple regions around the country manage, track and promote better sales programs. The inventory services industry lacked a modern hardware solution necessary for the high-speed capture of inventory data.Traditional high speed counting hardware utilized antiquated technology that is more than a decade old. Solution
To better serve its members, ISN has developed dynamic inventory software (modas) that allows for significant customization while providing the same high speed keying and scanning capabilities of traditional data collection hardware at a fraction of the cost.  Through this new software and its high-quality member companies, ISN can serve a large, nationally based client throughout the United States using common procedures, processing, and reporting.Alpha Anywhere provided ISN with the ability to utilize affordable, off-the-shelf mobile device hardware and develop a customized solution for high-speed counting. The solution also gave ISN the flexibility to modify the software features in the future, based on members’ needs and to keep pace with industry and technology innovations.

Lilliput Services is the largest independent commercial/industrial laundry in Ireland. Lilliput handles approximately 500,000 pieces of laundry a week from hotels, hospitals and other businesses. It owns most of the laundry stock, such as pillow cases, sheets and table linens, and rents them out to companies that contract for cleaning services.

Managing millions of pieces of inventory spread across a vast client base is a daunting task. Lilliput was losing a significant percentage of its laundry stock, which had a direct effect on its bottom line. To solve the problem, Lilliput attempted to utilize bar codes to track each piece of laundry stock, but that did not prove effective. Bar codes sometimes rubbed off and it became too time-consuming to scan every single item. Lilliput turned next to RFID tags, which were more effective, because entire bags of laundry could be scanned at a time. However, the company's existing software didn't work properly with RFID tags, so a new system was required.
"I knew the new system had to be Web-based, had to run off a substantial database, and had to be able to build mobile apps. I also wanted it to be easy to use and flexible. After some research, I found Alpha Anywhere, which did everything I needed."
Solution
Lilliput contracted with the consulting company Sedo Unus, owned and run by Aaron Kurth, to oversee the development of the new solution. Kurth recalls, "I knew the new system had to be Web-based, had to run off a substantial database, and had to be able to build mobile apps. I also wanted it to be easy to use and flexible. After some research, I found Alpha Anywhere, which did everything I needed." Through Alpha Anywhere, Kurth was put in touch with certified Alpha Software partner Web App Express. Web App Express builds data-driven custom mobile and web applications. It provides solutions to companies and organizations spanning more than 40 industries and various governmental entities, as well. Kurth set out the business requirements and partnered with Web App Express to create technical specifications, design the database and develop the new system. "Alpha Anywhere is the ideal platform for the system we built for Lilliput," says Scott Lines, co-owner of Web App Express. "It's powerful and flexible, so we were able to meet the company's precise needs. As Lilliput's requirements changed, we could easily keep up. And Alpha Anywhere also made it easy to design and build the mobile components that Lilliput needed." The system Web App Express built is comprehensive. It handles the entire laundry business process, starting with inputting and managing orders, then tracking inventory, shipping, receiving, and laundering articles. Closing the loop, the system handles invoicing and seamlessly connects to Lilliput's accounting system. As the linens leave Lilliput and come back, a mobile RFID scanning app, built using Alpha Anywhere, extracts all the information from the embedded RFID chips, and updates the database. Lilliput's knowledge of its inventory is vastly improved and so is their bottom line. The entire system is built on Alpha Anywhere.

Results/Benefits
Lilliput's investment in its new Alpha Anywhere based system from Web App Express has already paid off handsomely and in many ways.
"Lilliput had to have a new software system. The provider of their old software was going to charge a base price of $140,000 to update its system to work with RFID tags, and then add costs on top of that for customization. With Alpha Anywhere and Web App Express, the costs didn't come near that," recalls Kurth.
Benefits of the system touch every aspect of Lilliput's operations. "Lilliput keeps track of more than 150,000 unique items with the system now," Kurth says. "It knows where they are at in the plant, when they leave the plant, where they've gone, and when they come back. That's really the key to everything. Over time it will tag and track hundreds of thousands more." By tracking each piece of linen in this way, Lilliput has gained unprecedented control of its inventory and cut down on the number of items that are lost or unaccounted for. "Lilliput used to spend a half a million pounds a year to replace lost stock," Kurth says. "With the new system, that number has been reduced dramatically. We're still running the exact numbers on how much savings there has been, but I can tell you that it is quite substantial." Customer satisfaction has improved as well. Customers sometimes don't know exactly what linen they have on hand from Lilliput. But with the new system, Lilliput knows down to the piece what each customer has, and can provide that information for them at a moment's notice. The new system also reduces the amount of paper that Lilliput uses to track linen, leading to savings of approximately a ton of paper a month. "The new Alpha Anywhere system created by Web App Express gives us everything we need," Kurth concludes. "It saves money, gives Lilliput more flexibility in the way it works, reduces lost stock, and improves customer satisfaction."

Having practiced immigration law for more than 25 years with a focus on employment-based U.S. Immigration cases, Attorney Thomas A. Founded in 1988, Merrick Pet Care, Inc. is a leader in natural and organic pet food. All recipes are cooked in the USA using only fresh ingredients. The company offers a wide variety of dry and wet foods, as well as treats, that are available nationally at independent pet specialty stores, Petco, and online via select retailers. In April 2015, Merrick Pet Care was bought by Nestlé-Purina PetCare Company, but continues to operate as an independent business.

Merrick Pet Care uses a highly structured way of selling its products to retailers, in which more than 50 salespeople each visit 160 stores per month. The salespeople gather data about each site visit, including details about the placement of Merrick products, feedback from store managers, products sold, and the time each visit started and ended. Merrick is a data-driven company, and information from the sale staff needs to be gathered accurately and integrated into the Microsoft Dynamics, the company’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.
Merrick had been using mobile technology for several years, but its existing apps did not deliver the capabilities the company needed, such as the ability to work offline.
“We were looking to develop a high-quality mobile app that would offer offline capabilities, and be flexible enough to work exactly how we wanted,” says Wayne Freeman, Merrick Pet Care Director of IT. “The offline capabilities were particularly important, because cell service and Internet access is often spotty where our salespeople go.”
Merrick contracted with Clients First to develop and deploy its mobile app and strategy as a way to speed up development. Clients First develops accounting systems throughout the U.S.’s south-central region, and in more than five countries worldwide.

Solution
Clients First tried Kony and Appcelerator for developing the mobile app, but none was capable of building what Merrick Pet Care needed. Development was slow because of the limitations and difficulties in using each platform.
“After struggling with those two platforms, I came across Alpha Anywhere, and it looked to me as if it had all the capabilities we needed,” remembers Michael Conti, Managing Director of Clients First. “Its offline capabilities were particularly important and comprehensive. So was its ability to access device hardware, and integrate with Merrick’s ERP system. So I gave it a try, and was happy to see that we would be able to build what Merrick required, and do it more quickly than other platforms.”
Freeman says that the finished app “is very polished-looking – it looks like a B2C, high-quality app you’d download from the Apple App Store.” Using the app on iPads, salespeople put together their monthly plans, which are then changed if necessary by supervisors, and then approved. When salespeople go out on calls, the app uses the iPads’ GPS capabilities to help them find the fastest route from store to store. Salespeople input all information from each call into the app and that information is sent directly into the ERP system.
“It works exactly as we had envisioned it,” Freeman says. “It’s helped us immensely in the sales process and doing analytics.”

The app has increased salespeople’s productivity, and helped Merrick Pet Care more effectively manage its sales process.
“We track all sales metrics very closely,” Freeman says. “The app gives us transparency into the sales process, and how each salesperson operates. If we notice any issues, we can catch them right away and solve it quickly. It makes us much more efficient.”
Merrick Pet Care was so pleased with the Alpha Anywhere sales app that it had a second one built, for warehousing. Because of the experience gained with developing the sales app, it took only three weeks to build and deploy. The app examines all incoming orders, and sends that information to warehouse workers carrying mobile devices, making sure to batch the orders so that workers can fulfill them in the shortest amount of time. After the workers fulfill each order, they scan a bar code. That information then is sent straight into the ERP system.
“We’ve got 20 people using the warehouse application,” Freeman says. “Because we built it using Alpha Anywhere, we were able to develop it extremely quickly. I estimate we’ve saved hundreds of thousands of dollars in development time. Now that we’ve mastered Alpha Anywhere, I expect us to continue to build new apps with it across the organization. Alpha Anywhere’s flexibility can apply to virtually any department or business problem.”

Northern Edge Physical Therapy in Alaska had an urgent need.  The firm was holding a grand opening for one of its new office locations and wanted to introduce a new patient care app simultaneously for all the locations.. Northern Edge Physical Therapy wanted to use a mobile app to increase information flow and customer service for its patients, and differentiate itself in the market in terms of customer service and modern technology usage. The firm believed that a well-built mobile app could help gain office efficiencies and improve communication with patients.

The team at Northern Edge had attempted to build the app themselves, but had hit a wall and needed help fast.

The Alpha Professional Services team worked within Northern Edge Physical Therapy's budget, and did not charge rush fees, despite the accelerated timeline.  The Alpha team met Northern Edge's deadline, including testing and refinement of the app. The morning of the office grand opening, patients were downloading the new Northern Edge Physical Therapy patient care app from the Google Play and Apple App Stores and interacting with the app.  The app was completed in 80 hours of development time and the finished deliverable was in Northern Edge Therapy's hands in 4 weeks.

Patient Innovations develops Web-based software and mobile friendly apps to improve the patient experience, while at the same time optimizing hospital and physician practices. Its first product, OnTimeCare® is designed to eliminate waiting in doctors' offices, and optimize patient scheduling and appointment management to improve patient satisfaction, practice productivity and profitability. OnTimeCare® is the first intelligent scheduling system that calculates the correct variable amount of time that a patient will need - start to finish - depending on the reasons for their visit. It will also calculate the correct variable length of time the physician and all medical personnel will need with the patient. The system eliminates one of the most egregious causes of doctors running late: overbooking. OnTimeCare's SmartStandby® automatically fills canceled appointments as soon as they occur from an automated standby list. OnTimeCare® also anticipates and fills no-show appointments. If the doctor is running late, OnTimeCare® notifies patients to arrive later - closer to the actual time they're likely to see the doctor. Other messaging alerts patients to delays even after they've arrived. The VisitFlow Tracking® module uses a hybrid RFID system to measure encounters between all levels of providers and patients. This helps doctors see where they're needed most, and provides insights into the encounters. While VisitFlow Tracking® is geared to optimizing the medical practice, it also has applications in nursing homes and assisted living facilities because it can help providers do more effective rounding, and document all levels of care. Patient Innovations was looking for the best development platform for OnTimeCare and additional products and plug-ins it plans to launch after that, including MySafe Medical Records for patient data, HealthMinders®, which reminds patients when to take their medications, and LovedOne Updates®, which notifies loved ones and care givers of patient status and activities. "We needed a solution that would let us connect to any core EMR medical system," Patient Innovations President Ken Greenberg says. "It also had to give us a full suite of tools to build enterprise-level software quickly, and to let us build mobile apps."

Solution
Greenberg contracted with Peter Conway, co-founder of CloudPerfect LLC to help build the applications, starting with OnTimeCare. Greenberg and Conway looked at multiple solutions, and decided that Alpha Anywhere would be best suited for their needs. "It was the ideal solution," Greenberg remembers. "It lets us connect to any core medical system - even legacy systems - and it's a low-code solution, which means that we can prototype and build applications quickly." Conway adds, "I saw that Alpha Anywhere was great for rapid development by a small team, that it would allow us to use SQL Server as our database, and that it met all of the security requirements for a medical application." Under Greenberg's direction, Conway built the OnTimeCare Web-based service using Alpha Anywhere. He lauds the user interface controls, which gave him the tools and flexibility to create a user-friendly interface.
The system includes a VisitFlow Tracking®, a component that uses RFID equipment to track interactions between care providers and patients. An RF transmitter is located in each room in a practice. Healthcare providers have badges that the transmitters ping. When patients check in, they each get a badge assigned to them for the duration of their visit. In that way, practices can see how long patients are waiting in various rooms, and how long they are with a provider in each room or in a doctor's office for a consultation.
The system also tracks RFID tags on hospital equipment, so staff immediately know where key medical devices are. This dramatically reduces time that staff previously spent looking for or moving equipment. This results in less frustrated nurses and doctors, and shorter visits for patients.

Results/Benefits
Because of its ease of building sophisticated Web apps, Patient Innovations built the OnTimeCare Web app far more quickly and at far less cost than if it had used another tool. Although a mobile app hasn't yet been built for OnTimeCare, Conway says that it will be easy to build one because of "the common component structure it shares with the Web site. I built the web app with mobile in mind, so it will be very easy to mobile-ize the existing browser components and build a Web app that can be deployed to Android or iOS. We were mobile-aware from Day One, and as we convert to fully mobile-friendly, it will be easy to do." OnTimeCare has been tested by medical practices, and they have seen significant benefits from its use, Greenberg says. Patient wait times have been drastically reduced, doctors are spending more quality time with their patients, and patient no-shows can be reduced by 75 percent. Cancelled appointment slots are filled quickly and automatically, and appointments can be rescheduled or canceled in minutes. "It leads to big productivity and cost savings for medical practices," he says. "It can also lead to increased revenue because the practices have fewer unused slots. It can pay for itself in a half year." In addition, it improves patient satisfaction because there is less time spent waiting for appointments. UnitedHealthcare partnered with Patient Innovations to build the software to an enterprise level system and test it in one of their largest practice groups, Greenberg notes. Just using VisitFlow Tracking® in the initial test case, wait times in waiting rooms fell 4%, wait times in exam rooms dropped 13%, the time doctors spent with patients in exam rooms increased 57% and the time doctors spent in their offices consulting with patients increased 22%. This occurred with no loss of patient volume. Greenberg notes, "What gets measured, gets done. As doctors and staff began to visually appreciate the time they spent with patients, and the time patients had to wait, they began corrections. Adding SmartSchedule® to the test case will further improve results." Patient Innovations will be building a mobile app, HealthMinders, using Alpha Anywhere, which reminds patients to take their medications at the proper times. It was designed to improve healthcare, reduce hospital readmissions, and cut healthcare costs. It's also available as an add-on to the OnTimeCare® platform. "We believe that the future of healthcare is bright, thanks to the technology we're building," Greenberg says. Waiting to see the doctor, or weeks for an appointment with a busy specialist is the number one patient complaint. OnTimeCare® solves this problem, engendering patient delight while making the practice more efficient and profitable. It's a win-win, and a key component in everything we do is Alpha Anywhere."

PetSitClick's founders wanted to build a scalable SaaS ERP platform for small to mid-sized businesses. After considering tools such as Ruby, PHP, Java, Visual Studio, and others, they realized programming would require substantial time and staff. They wanted an alternative that minimized coding and maximized productivity, but could still deliver a robust SaaS experience. They also wanted a platform where updates and improvements could be handled by a small on-site team.
Dog walking, pet sitting, and pet services might sound like a mom and pop industry, but these are surprisingly complex businesses in a $4.54 billion industry. For example, each PetSitClick subscriber might have dozens of workers managing hundreds of dogs per day. The software had to make it easy to manage schedules, logistics, medications, health monitoring, feeding, grooming, special diets, off-hours and holiday visits, hygiene, and more—not to mention receivables, payables, and other requirements essential to any business.
Stability is also crucial to PetSitClick’s customers. Slow performance or server downtime can mean life or death for a beloved pet if it has special needs, such as diabetes, where medical visits are required. This gives new meaning to the words, “mission critical.” There are also pets that need medications for non-life-threatening conditions, such as ear infections. A pet service could lose a customer if they miss a treatment due to downtime.
The software had to make it easy to manage schedules, logistics, medications, health monitoring, feeding, grooming, special diets, off-hours and holiday visits, hygiene, and more—not to mention receivables, payables, and other requirements essential to any business.
Solution
After researching and testing various tools, they were impressed by the maturity, scalability, and "coding optional" web and mobile capabilities of Alpha Anywhere. They went to work developing their SaaS ERP product. It was ready to go in just seven months.
Moreover, customers kept suggesting new features and enhancements. Thanks to Alpha Anywhere’s coding-optional development technology, it was easy to quickly make changes. PetSitClick’s small team simply updated the required forms and database, and published a new version without any coding.

Uplanit
Uplanit is an Australian-based company that provides business continuity IT disaster recover consulting for large private and public companies, including hotels, power companies, investment companies, casinos, and others. Uplanit runs exercises and creates scenarios to test how prepared companies are for disasters. Using paper-based scripts, the company creates disaster scenarios and records how participants respond to them. Uplanit then evaluates and scores how businesses react. In many instances, simulation exercises are a regulatory and audit requirement.

Uplanit was using a paper-based exercise planning system to help its customers improve their business continuity and disaster planning. Uplanit consultants would go onsite to an enterprise client, and utilize paper "scripts" to present and run an emergency scenario for an enterprise client's employee base and capture those employees' feedback. "Creating the scripts on paper was extremely time-consuming," says Steve Power, principal consultant for Uplanit. "It took a great deal of work to get the scripts to the participating employees. Calculating the results would take several weeks. It was also problematic trying to collect participant and observer feedback via paper." Using paper created other problems as well, such as not being able to easily change scenarios. Reading from paper scripts did not offer the kind of interactivity Uplanit wanted to offer. And creating, distributing, and using paper-based scripts was time consuming and expensive. "We knew we needed a new system," Power says. "We wanted a web-based platform that would reduce costs, improve flexibility, and give the scenarios a greater sense of reality by using technologies such as direct messaging. We also wanted a platform that could scale as we ramped up the business."

Solution
Uplanit is a small company with limited resources, no sizable in-house IT staff, and no background in web-based development. Because of that, it decided that a rapid application development (RAD) platform would be the best solution for creating a web-based system. After initial research and testing, it quickly chose Alpha Anywhere. "We recognized right away that Alpha Anywhere was the only product that could do what we wanted with the resources we had, and in the shortest time possible," Power says. "The no-code and low-code approach was ideal for us. The people on our staff who were going to be the developers were also the knowledge experts, so no business analysts were required to translate the requirements. This is a big plus for Alpha Anywhere." Power does not have a web-development background, but using Alpha Anywhere he built much of the web-based system himself. Participants see the scenario unfolding on the Alpha Anywhere web app, and have to react to developments in real-time. Videos delivered via the web app give the exercises a greater sense of reality. People can participate from many different locations by accessing the app via mobile devices and the web. There is also far more interactivity than when paper is used.
With Uplanit software, companies can build their own library of exercises and reuse the content to create a new exercise in minutes. They can customize the content from one central location, making it easy to manage the information. Companies can also access and revisit the executed scenarios via the web app later, which makes them more effective and useful. The app also makes it easy to rate how well companies did during the exercises, and whether participants thought the exercises were useful. All participants can respond to online questionnaires via their phone or tablets, making it easy for Uplanit to do its evaluations.

Uplanit and its customers have reaped considerable benefits from use of the Alpha Anywhere-created system. Particularly important is that Uplanit was able to launch the system far faster and at far less cost than if it used other app development methods. "We built the entire system from scratch in a year using two developers— and it would have taken a team double that size at least twice as long if we had used another tool to create it," Power says. "So it saved us a tremendous amount of time and money. "
That faster time to market is important, Power says, because, "We're one of the early entrants to this limited vertical market, and that's one of the keys to our success." Scenarios and exercises can be created far more quickly than previously because of the ease of building them online rather than on paper - and because existing templates and scenarios can be re-used. "Because of that, instead of taking three to five weeks to create scenarios, which is how much time it used to take, they can be created in hours," Power says.  Scenarios can be changed on the fly. The videos and interactivity makes them more realistic, which leads to better training. Feedback can be obtained instantaneously. Uplanit also built a subscription and billing system, which makes it easier for customers to pay online. "Using Alpha Anywhere, we've brought disaster exercises and scenarios into the modern era," Power says. "It's helped us reduce costs, please our clients and expand our market share and customer base - and happier customers are loyal customers. Alpha Anywhere has been a win all around."

World Medical Card Launches Multi-Language Medical Information App that Runs Flawlessly on Android, iOS, Windows and Blackberry

World Medical Card
World Medical Card, based in Bergen, Norway, stores comprehensive patient medical and health information on a Web site, including conditions, diagnosis history, medications, allergies, and more, in multiple languages. This data is always available to share via a mobile app or physical printed card. People carry the app and/or card with them when they travel, so that emergency rooms and doctors have complete medical details immediately available and can issue a proper diagnosis and administer treatment accordingly. Jeff Benson, of HighBrookCREATE, an independent software development firm, specializes in building applications and apps using Alpha Anywhere and created the mobile app for World Medical Card.

Business Challenge
Travelers wishing to use the World Medical Card service register at the World Medical Card Web site and fill out forms to detail their medical information. They then request that a physical printed card which contains their medical and health data be mailed to them. They carry it in their wallet when they travel. Patients can update their information and request a new physical card be mailed to them at any time. To expand its service offering, World Medical Card wanted to launch a mobile app for its service that would work on iOS, Android, and Windows Phone. "We wanted a technology that would let us quickly build the app and deploy it to different operating systems, and then easily upgrade it," says Knut Horne, World Medical Card's Chief Technology Officer. A mobile app would mean that customers would immediately be able to have their medical data available for sharing instantly without waiting to receive a new physical card. In addition, the mobile app provides features and benefits not available on a printed physical card - for example, instantly providing a translation of a card holder's diagnosis or allergy from English to one of 19 other supported languages.

Solution
Horne faced a basic decision when considering what technology to use: Should his company create native apps or use a hybrid solution? "If we went native, we would have had to build separate apps for iOS and Android, and possibly one for Windows Phone, and another for Blackberry," he says. "I knew how expensive and time-consuming that could be - and how expensive it would be to update and maintain them all. I realized that Alpha Anywhere would be the ideal solution for us because we could write the app once, and then have it run on multiple mobile operating systems." After he decided to use Alpha Anywhere, he hired independent developer Jeff Benson to write the app. He found Benson through a referral from Alpha Software.

Several features were particularly useful in building World Medical Card's app including list controls, view-box controls, object properties editing and configuration, and, of course, integration with PhoneGap Build. Because Alpha Anywhere supports HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript and PhoneGap, and allows practically limitless customization, it's easy to build a top-notch mobile app with a rich user interface that takes advantage of mobile device features and deploy it anywhere."

Alpha Anywhere has delivered considerable benefits for Benson, World Medical Card, and World Medical Card's customers. "With Alpha Anywhere, I was able to quickly meet all of World Medical Card's specs for the app," Benson says. "It would have been much more costly and time-consuming to build separate native apps for each individual platform. And Alpha Anywhere's extensibility and open framework meant I could easily integrate the app with World Medical Card's WordPress powered website." World Medical Card's Horne agrees. "I had an estimate from a Scandinavian development company on what it would cost to build native apps, and it would have cost us at least 10 times as much to do it that way instead of using Alpha Anywhere," he says. "The actual costs would have been even more than that, because that estimate was only for the initial apps, not for revisions and upgrades." As for the iOS and Android app built with Alpha Anywhere, he says, "The app is as good as it can possibly be. Building native apps would not have been an improvement." Using their mobile devices and the new mobile app built with Alpha Anywhere, World Medical Card customers can be proactive about protecting their health while traveling. For example, if they have a food allergy and they are abroad in a restaurant, they can pull up the app, and display the allergy information to their waiter in the waiter's native language, because the app works in 19 languages. World Medical Card plans to use Alpha Anywhere for more than just the mobile app. Benson is working on internal browser-based applications for company employees, which they will use to manage World Medical Card's backend that contains comprehensive information about medications, diagnoses, allergies, and provides translations to 19 languages, with more to come. The Alpha Anywhere-built applications communicate with a backend MySQL database. Benson is working to integrate new applications with WordPress, which powers the World Medical Card website. The World Medical Card mobile app is currently available for download from the Apple App store, the Google Play store, and the Microsoft Windows Phone App store. Customers enter their data through their account on the World Medical Card website and then can sync the mobile app with their web account at any time. Medical data is securely stored on the mobile device and is available for display and review even when the mobile device is disconnected. "Alpha Anywhere has been ideal for what we needed done," Horne concludes. "We've quickly built and deployed the mobile app we wanted to multiple operating systems, and it was finished at far less cost that if we had done native app development. And we'll be able to easily update the app quickly and inexpensively going forward."
